There are three common types of indoor tanning beds: tanning canopies, stand-up tanning booths, and of course tanning beds themselves. Tanning canopies are by far the cheapest of all, making them perfect for home use; whereas stand-up tanning booths are much more expensive and generally only seen at tanning salons or dermatologist offices.

Tanning beds, on the other hand, are commonly purchased for both home and tanning salon use. Sunbeds, as they're commonly called, are available in a wide price range. The home user, for example, can find a decent sunbed for $2000 to $3000. While the salon style beds, which are more durable, run $4000 and up.

Tanning beds are a large investment, and like any investment you want to see a return on your money. Before purchasing a sunbed, seriously consider how much use you'll really get from it and whether or not it's cheaper than visiting your local tanning salon.
