Until now spray tanning has only been available for those with a sunless tanning salon in their neighborhood, or for those who put up the money to purchase their own airbrush tanning system. Spray-tan-in-a-can products, also known as aerosol tanning sprays, distribute sunless tanning solution as a fine mist. This makes using aerosol tanning spray very easy, as the mist is evenly distributed and blended naturally as it's applied to the skin. The mist emitted from the nozzle is very similar to that emitted from aerosol hair sprays.

Once the sunless tanning solution from the spray-tan-in-a-can is applied to the skin it dries immediately, at most it may be a little tacky for a few minutes. The actual tan won't appear for about 2 to 3 hours, as the active ingredient, DHA, slowly works with the skin.
