Aftersun Suncare

As a serious tanner I consider after sun lotions and after sun face lotions to be just as important as indoor or outdoor tanning lotions. These suncare products moisturize, cool, and sooth sun drenched skin, leaving it soft and supple. Most importantly these lotions help set and prolong your tan by preventing your skin from drying out and peeling. I'll even claim these lotions are the difference between a gorgeous healthy tan and one that dries and peels in a matter of days. Aftersun lotions are also effective at providing sunburn relief.

A quality aftersun lotion will provide sunned skin with the nutrition it requires. The best after sun lotions contain Aloe Vera and Vitamin E. Aloe Vera aids in the healing of the skin by sloughing off dead skin cells and helping to rejuvenate and rebuild new healthy skin tissue. It's been shown that Aloe indirectly aids in the manufacture of collagen, which is the protein responsible for controlling the aging process of the skin. Vitamin E benefits include: accelerating healing, restoring moisture, as well as preventing premature aging.

Many reputable skin care companies such as Aveda, Biotherm, and Babor develop after sun suncare products. These companies each offer unique after sun products with some formulations containing anti-mosquito repellents, SPF sunscreen, or even self tanning tinted moisturizers. I personally use two different types of after sun products; an after sun lotion formulated for general body application and another formulated for the face. The after sun facial formulation is useful because it's oil free and doesn't cause me to break out.
