Suntan Lotion

Suntan lotions and outdoor tanning oils act as catalysts to
accelerate your tan. These lotions are different from
sunscreen
and
sunblock
in that they have little to no
SPF protection.
Instead they are uniquely formulated for
outdoor tanning,
where the environment and UV intensity varies greatly from
place to place. When using these lotions be very careful to
avoid over-exposure; with little to no SPF sun protection
you can burn very quickly.

The best suntan lotion for use outdoors are enriched with
vitamins and minerals which nourish the skin, but most
importantly suntanning lotions keep your skin
moist.
Clean
moist skin tans better and more evenly because it allows UV
light to penetrate the skin and be absorbed by melanin, the
pigment which gives us color.
The most common question that comes up regarding outdoor
tanning lotions is this,
“Can you use outdoor tanning lotions in an indoor tanning bed?”
The short answer is no, for two reasons. First, many
outdoor tanning lotions contain mineral oils that damage the
acrylic of sunbeds, leading to premature aging of the equipment.
This is the reason many
tanning salons
ban the use of outdoor
tanning lotions. The second reason is outdoor tanning lotions
are specifically formulated for outdoor tanning, they contain
UV filters and sunscreens. If you were to use these lotions for
indoor tanning
they would inhibit, rather than accelerate your tan.
Outdoor Tanning Tip: There are some
sunbed lotions
that you can use for outdoor tanning but remember there is no
SPF protection.
