Aerosal Tanning Spray
Spray Tan in a Can
The natural extension to salon style
airbrush and
spray-on tanning
is
aerosal tanning spray,
otherwise known as
spray-tan-in-a-can or
tan-can-spray.
Sunless
aerosol tanning sprays provide exactly the same
tan as can be achieved at professional sunless
tanning salons, but in the comfort of your own
home.
The active ingredient in aerosol tanning spray is
dihydroxyacetone
(DHA).
DHA is a non-toxic colorless sugar which gives us
the tanned color. With some aerosal tanning sprays
a bronzer is included to immediately provide color
to the skin, but this is nothing more than
make-up. The real tanned look doesn't appear until
DHA fully works to darken the skin, generally 2 to
3 hours after application.
Before applying an aerosal tan for the first time,
it's best to exfoliate the skin. Exfoliating
removes any dirt, oil, or dead skin cells which
would otherwise prevent the skin from tanning. To
begin, use a shower cap to prevent the sunless
tanning solution from getting into the hair. Then
start applying the self tanning aerosal spray in
smooth sweeping motions, holding the can 8 to 12"
from the skin or face - it's similar to using hair
spray. The aerosol tanning spray covers evenly and
drys immediately; color appears instantly with
those aerosol spray cans containing bronzers.
As with other
self-tanning methods,
the
sunless tan
resulting from aerosal tanning
spray generally lasts for 5 to 7 days following
the last application. To preserve an
aerosol tan,
use a
tan extender or
moisturizer,
these products keep skin healthy and prolong the
length of sunless tans by slowing down the natural
sloughing off of dead skin cells. To ensure an
aerosal tan doesn't fade completely, reapply at
least every 3 to 4 days, depending on the shade of
tan desired.
Sunless tanning products, including aerosal
tanning spray, do not protect against UV exposure,
nor aid in the production of vitamin D. Prior to
any UV exposure it is recommended to use a quality
sunscreen,
sunblock, or
SPF moisturizer
before venturing outdoors.
