Tan Towels
The sunless tan towelette is a relatively new product.
These sunless tanning products are easy to use and an
excellent way to achieve a natural-looking self tan.
They come as individually wrapped pre-moistened wipes,
making them convenient to store and easy to pack when
traveling. Many consider tan towels to be the best
self tanner
product available on the market today.
Self tanning towelettes work best on freshly cleaned,
ex-foliated skin. Some tanning towelettes are double
sided, with one side intended for ex-foliating and the
other intended for application of the tanning chemicals.
When applying, remove the tanning towel from the package
and keep folded, or if needed unfold then fold back into
quarters. I like starting with my legs, sweeping the towel
up and down then right to left. I continue working the tan
towel over my body up to the face and finishing with my
arms. As I work the towel I slowly unfold it so it's moist
at all times. If the towel isn't moist then you aren't
tanning, sometimes with smaller towelettes you may need
two or three to cover the body. When finished I carefully
wash the bottoms of my hands using the
three towel method.

The nice thing about self tanning towelettes is the chemical
dries fast, only taking 15 to 20 minutes.
However, during this time you'll want to minimize contact with
pretty much everything. The chemicals, particularly
DHA,
from the tan towel have been known to stain clothing and
furniture if not given sufficient time to dry. Also be sure
to avoid any contact with water, as it will leave unattractive
blotchy spots on the skin. In general your fake tan will
begin to develop 2 to 3 hours after using the tanning towelettes.
As with other
fake tanning methods
the tan resulting from tan towels generally lasts for
5 to 7 days after application. Sunless tans fade as
dead skin cells are naturally sloughed off. To ensure you
don't lose your self tan, reapply with a fresh tanning
towelette regularly, at least every 3 to 4 days
depending on the shade of tan desired.
Sunless tanning products, including self tanning towelettes,
do not protect against UV exposure, nor aid in the
production of vitamin D. Prior to any UV exposure it is
recommended that you use a quality
sunscreen,
sunblock, or
SPF moisturizer
before venturing outdoors.
